ShZSA Prepares Proposals for Russian Defense Ministry on Sensitive Sites in Arctic


Shumerlinski plant of emergency vehicles is considering proposals for the Defense Ministry of Russia for the production of special facilities for the Arctic, the general designer of ShZSA Sergei Tarasov told to journalists.

In recent years, Russia has begun to take an active economic development of its northern territories, including the production of hydrocarbons, as well as the development of the Northern Sea Route, which is increasingly becoming an alternative to traditional routes from Europe to Asia. To protect its interests in the Arctic Russia has a package of measures, including military measures, given the increased attention to the region on the part of NATO member countries.

In April, President Vladimir Putin announced the creation of the unified system of basing for surface ships and submarines of the new generation in the Russian part of Arctic. According to him, it will also have to increase the reliability of the protection of the Russian border in the Arctic, including through the strengthening of the naval component of border groups.
