Russian Air Force Checks Air Defences in EMD

15 planes and helicopters of the Russian Air Force have tested the combat readiness of air defence units in Russia’s Eastern Military District. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Defence Ministry.

“15 aircraft and helicopters of different types (Su-27, MiG-31, Tu-134, An-26, An-12, Mi-8, and Ka-52) took part in the exercises as aerial targets intruding into Russian airspace. The objective of the crews was to get through the air defences unnoticed by radar stations and missile systems. For this purpose, aircraft and helicopters made flights at the altitudes varying from 50 meters to 10,000 meters. Most of the flights were conducted with the identification systems switched off at the lowest possible altitudes to skirt features of the terrain,” the press center reported.

The flights were performed during the daytime and after dusk and were registered by air-based and ground-based objective control instruments. Upon completion of the inspection, performance of the air defence crews will be assessed.
