Russia Begins Vostok-2014 Strategic Military Exercises
The strategic command and staff exercises Vostok-2014 involving about 100,000 servicemen began in the Eastern Military District on Friday. This was announced by the Russian Defence Ministry.
“About 100,000 servicemen, up to 1,500 tanks, 120 aircraft, 5,000 units of weaponry, military and special hardware, and 70 ships will take part in the military exercises,” the press service of the Russian Defence Ministry noted.
The drills will involve the units that participated in the combat readiness check of the Eastern Military District on September 11-18, when the troops were put on full combat alert, airlifted, and redeployed by rail and sea.
“The Vostok-2014 exercises will take place at more than 20 land, sea and air ranges from Anadyr to Vladivostok. In particular, the Russian military will practice skills to protect the sea coast and islands at the ranges of Sakhalin, Kamchatka, Chukotka, and Primorye,” the Russian Defence Ministry stated.
