Russian Scientists to Create Group of “Smart” Mini-Satellites

   sputnik_2

Russian scientists together with specialists from the space industry are going to create mini-satellites, that for the first time in the world can join in groups to educate themselves and even to repair each other without leaving the orbit, the director of the Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science (Tomsk ) Sergey Psakhie told to RIA Novosti.

Earlier Tomsk hosted a roundtable discussion with local universities, JSC “RSC Energia” and other enterprises. The participants proposed the creation of a consortium to develop thematic clusters CubeSat – artificial mini-satellites used for space research and other tasks.

This is a new step in the development of astronautics. The idea is to make a “swarm” of such satellites, which educate themselves, interact with each other, and transmit commands.
