Elimination of Nuclear Heritage of Russian Federation for 20-25 Years
By 2040, the State Corporation “Rosatom” expects to complete the program for the elimination of nuclear legacy of the Russian Federation. This was stated by the head of state corporation Sergei Kiriyenko, speaking at the 58th General Conference of the IAEA.
According to him, Russia has legislated international principles of radioactive wastes treatment. Required, safe and cost-effective disposal of radioactive waste is intended to protect the health of future generations.
“In the next 20-25 years, we plan to complete the bulk of the work on the elimination of such heritage,” he said. According to Interfax-AVN, the work is to recycle all spent nuclear fuel from dumping of waste, decommissioning of nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities, rehabilitation of contaminated territories.
