Thailand Willing to Purchase Two Russian Helicopters
The Armed Forces of Thailand have signed a contract for the purchase of the second batch of Russian-made helicopters, including two Mi-17V-5s. This was stated by an official representative of the Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade.
It should be noted that in February 2011, Thailand purchased the first batch of Russian-made helicopters that included three Mi-17V-5s.
“The parties started discussing the agreement in October 2013. The contract for the purchase of two helicopters for the Armed Forces of Thailand was singed this year in Moscow”, the representative pointed out.
Russia’s state-owned arms exporter Rosoboronexport has not commented on this information.
It’s worth mentioning that in October 2013, the Government of Thailand approved the allocation of funds for the procurement of eight additional multi-purpose helicopters. The acquisition program provides for the purchase of six UH-72As and two Mi-17V-5s.
