Russia’s EMD to Receive New Air Defence Systems This Year
More than twenty Tor-M2U air defence systems will enter service with Russia’s Eastern Military District before the end of 2014. A number of air defence units of the Eastern Military District have already been rearmed with Tor missile systems. This information was presented by Col. Alexander Gordeyev, a spokesman for the Eastern Military District.
“By the end of this year, more than 20 advanced Tor-M2U systems will enter service with air defence units of motorized compounds in the Eastern Military District stationed in Russia’s Primorsky Region,” Mr. Gordeyev stated.
It should be noted that the Tor-M2U is an advanced surface-to-air missile system designed for defending key military and civilian facilities from attacks by aircraft, cruise and guided missiles, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles. The Tor-M2U can simultaneously detect more than 40 targets while tracking and attacking four of them at once.
