Russia and China to Develop Hybrid Nuclear Reactor of the Future
Russian and Chinese physicists can launch a joint project to develop a hybrid nuclear reactor of the future, in which the fusion reaction is used to improve the performance of a conventional nuclear reactor, the director of the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” Mikhail Kovalchuk said on Tuesday.
“Today we launched a radically new thing – we try to combine the current schematic thermal reactors with tokamak (an experimental thermonuclear installation), creating a hybrid reactor. This kind of project is open to our colleagues, especially for Chinese. We are discussing it, this is a very important thing,” Kovalchuk said during the forum “Open Innovations”.
