New unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) “Leer-3” will go into service of motorized troops of Eastern Military District until the end of 2014, the head of the press service of the Eastern Military District Colonel Alexander Gordeev said on Monday.
“By the end of this year motorized troops of Eastern Military District stationed in Primorsky Krai and Sakhalin Oblast get adopted drones “Leer-3″. These military units will receive several sets of advanced UAVs,” he said.
According to Gordeev, the drones “Leer-3” will watch the passage of exercises, check the status of military facilities and explore the terrain. In addition, one of the modifications of the UAV can produce radio interference to suppress the enemy’s radio-electronic means.
