Russia to Start Developing New Missile Destroyer in 2015

Russia’s Defence Ministry has approved the technical design specification for nuclear-powered and gas turbine versions of the Leader-class destroyers. There was no clarity yet concerning the weapons, but the new ship will be most likely equipped with the Caliber high-precision cruise missile system and the S-500 defence system. This information was presented by a high-ranking source in the military-industrial complex on Tuesday.

“The Leader technical design specification prepared by the Russian Navy’s Command has been signed by the leadership of the Defence Ministry that approved the engineering design for nuclear-powered and gas turbine versions of the destroyer,” the source said.

According to the information available, the Severnoye Design Bureau plans to start working on the engineering design preparation in 2015.
