Russian Defence Minister Summarizes Vostok-2014 Results
The Russian soldiers showed the high level of qualification and readiness to perform various tasks during the Vostok-2014 strategic exercises. This came in a statement by Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoygu.
“The drills were aimed at checking readiness of the Russian Army’s special forces units for immediate actions in the areas of possible crises, including the Far North and the Arctic region. We also intended to study the possibilities of the Russian Army’s infrastructure to redeploy troops from remote areas of the country when new armament, military and special equipment are supplied. Another goal was to check the efficiency of our control system, primarily its maritime components,” Mr. Shoygu said on Wednesday.
It should be noted that the Vostok-2014 exercises were conducted at more than 20 land, sea and air ranges. More than 155,000 servicemen, some 8,000 units of military hardware, including over 4,000 armored vehicles, 632 aircraft, and 84 ships took part in the military exercises.
