Roscosmos to Receive Super-Heavy Carrier Rocket Designs This Year
Russia’s Federal Space Agency Roscosmos will receive technical suggestions in creating the super-heavy carrier rockets by the end of 2014. This was stated by Andrey Mazurin, Head of the Launch Vehicles and Ground Infrastructure Department, on Thursday.
“We expect to receive designs from leading enterprises by the end of the year,” Mr. Mazurin pointed out, noting that theseproposals willbe used to choose the best wayto create such avehicle on the basis of the specific tasks.
According to media reports, Roscosmos plans to develop a super-heavy carrier rocket to be used in Russia’s lunar program, able to launch up to 80 tons of cargo into space. In the long term, a rocket capable of carrying 130 to 160 tons could be created.
