Far East Sappers Received New Protective Suit “Sokol”

Sappers of the Eastern Military District began receiving newest protective suit “Sokol”, able to protect against debris flying at speeds up to 550 meters per second.

“The first batch of 10 sets is admitted by the mine clearing groups of engineering division deployed in the Khabarovsk region,” the head of the press service of the Eastern Military District, Colonel Alexander Gordeev told to journalists on Monday.

The suit weighs only 8.5 kilograms, which allows a sapper to clear mines throughout the day. The armor plates of “Sokol” are made of lightweight and high-strength polyethylene instead of steel, as in other suits. The costume retains the protective properties in the temperature range from minus 40 to plus 50 degrees and in the rain and sleet.
