Russia to Receive First Mistral in Mid-November

The ceremony of France transferring the first Mistral-class helicopter carrier to Russia is scheduled for November 14 and is due to take place in the city of Saint-Nazaire. This was announced by a representative of the worker’s union on Monday.

“The ceremony of France handing over the first Mistral-class helicopter carrier, the Vladivostok, to Russia is scheduled for November 14,” the representative stated, noting that the date is not yet official, but the shipyard’s employees are currently preparing for the ceremony.

It’s necessary to mention that DCNS and Rosoboronexport signed a €1.2 billion contract for two Mistral-class helicopter carriers in 2011. The completion of the deal was at risk after Western countries imposed sanctions against Russia. However, DCNS said it would fulfill its obligations and deliver the ships as agreed. According to the Russian Navy, the country doesn’t depend on France on the issue and is capable of building similar warships on its own.
