Russian Navy to Receive Second Project 11356 Frigate in 2015


The second Project 11356 frigate, the Admiral Essen, will be handed over to the Russian Navy by the end of 2015. This statement was made by Chief Designer Pyotr Vasilyev at the ceremony, where the frigate was floated out.

According to the information furnished by the press service of the Yantar Baltic Shipyard, the Project 11356 flagship, the Admiral Grigorovich, will be floated out and handed over to the Navy by the end of next spring. Under an agreement signed with the Russian Defence Ministry, Yantar shall complete construction of six Project 11356 ships in 2017. A total of five frigates, including the Admiral Grigorovich, the Admiral Essen, the Admiral Makarov, the Admiral Butakov and the Admiral Istomin, have been laid down so far.

Project 11356 frigates are designed for combat actions on high seas against surface ships and submarines and for repelling enemy airstrikes both autonomously and as escort ships within naval detachments.
