Chinese 5G Fighter to Receive Russian Engine
The Chinese J-31 fifth-generation fighter jet will be equipped with the Russian-made RD-93 engine. This statement was made by Rosoboronexport’s Air Force Equipment Export Department Head Sergey Kornev.
According to the statement, the Chinese J-31 with the Russian RD-93 engine is able to compete with the American F-35 fifth-generation aircraft. The program is ambitious, but very real, especially considering the high cost of the F-35 aircraft and some problems with its development.
It’s worth mentioning that two fifth-generation fighters are being developed in China, the J-20 and J-31, which demonstrates the high potential of Chinese science and aviation industry. The J-31 fifth-generation fighter made a maiden flight in October 2012. The Russian RD-93 engines are a modification of the RD-33 engines developed by Soviet engineers in 1968-1985.
