Russia to Boost Civil Shipbuilding Development
The domestic shipyards should play a leading role in constructing vessels for the transport and fuel complex. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting on civil shipbuilding development.
“The domestic shipyards should have a leading role in the fight for the orders,” Mr. Putin stated and reminded of the plans of Russia’s leading oil and gas companies to further develop offshore deposits of the Far East and the Arctic, and growing importance of the Northern Sea route.
“This implies a great amount of orders for reliable and modern vessels. Large-scale projects in the transport and fuel complex should fill the capacity of Russian, not foreign plants. At the same time, our shipbuilders should offer a good quality product which should outperform foreign ones both in price and speed of construction and maintenance,” Mr. Putin pointed out.
The Russian President has also urged to use the experience of Russian shipbuilders in manufacturing drilling platforms, geological survey vessels, supply vessels, and ice-class vessels.
