Russia to Receive Own Space Station

Russia will start in 2017 to deploy its own orbital space station. For its creation, the engineers can use a part of the modules previously destined for the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS), “Kommersant” newspaper wrote on Monday, citing a source close to the leadership of the Central Scientific research Institute of Mechanical Engineering.

“The new station will be located in a geometrically favorable position with the possibility of expanding field view of the surface of the Earth. From the station it will be visible up to 90% of the territory of Russia and the Arctic shelf, while for the ISS, this figure does not exceed 5%,” the edition quotes the source words.

According to him, the amount of the costs has not been determined. At the initial stage, as the newspaper writes, it is planned to use the modules and devices being developed for the Russian segment of the ISS. Despite this, the question of an early closure of works on the ISS was not discussed, according to the newspaper’s sources.
