Russia Creates New Special Economic Zone in Astrakhan Region
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a resolution to set up another special economic zone in the country, in the southern Astrakhan Region.
“I have signed a resolution to establish a special economic zone of the industrial type in Narimanov District of Russia’s Astrakhan Region,” Mr. Medvedev said, adding that the project will require investment in infrastructure and production.
“Investment will help implement projects within the context of the Caspian development, including shelf and shipbuilding projects, and will create high-performance jobs,” the Russian Prime Minister noted.
Astrakhan Region Governor Alexander Zhilkin said that investment in production capacities alone would make up more than $10 billion at an annual rate. He said that the project was also of great interest for companies in Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Iran.
