Russia to Return Soviet Reputation in Space Research
Russia will regain its Soviet-era reputation of the space exploration leader if the Federal Space Program for 2016-2025 is implemented according to schedule. This came in a statement by Lev Zeleny, Director of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Space Research Institute.
“If we manage to implement our plans, we will return ourselves the position the Soviet Union had in space research,” Mr. Zeleny told journalists at a press conference.
“We already have a powerful program for Mars exploration, called ExoMars. According to it, we plan several launches of spacecraft to Mars in 2016 and either 2018 or 2020,” Mr. Zeleny continued.
The Director of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Space Research Institute also held a meeting with the scientists of the European Space Agency and discussed the prospects of European participation in Russian lunar projects. Mr. Zeleny said that Russian scientific instruments had been working on a number of foreign spacecraft.
