Second Launch Pad for “Angara” at Plesetsk to Be Built after 2016


The second launch pad for new Russian carrier rockets “Angara” will be built on the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region after 2016, a source in the space industry told RIA Novosti.

“Since 2016 up to 2025, the new program of spaceports construction will be started taking into account new facilities – Vostochniy and Plesetsk. Today, it has issues of construction of the second launch pad for the “Angara”. Such plans exist. Nowadays the program is subject to agreement,” the source said.

According to him, the second such site is needed with regard to the number of starts and the need for “backup” in case of emergency situations.
