Russia to Develop Hypersonic Weapons This Decade
Advanced weapons for the Russian fifth-generation T-50 fighter jet will be produced before the end of state trials. This came in a statement by Director General of Russia’s Tactical Missiles Corporation Boris Obnosov on Saturday.
“Development of advanced weapons for the aircraft system is one of the priorities for the corporation. We seek to produce weapons for the plane by the end of state trials,” Mr. Obnosov said, noting that air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles are being manufactured for the T-50.
In addition, Mr. Obnosov announced that Russia would develop hypersonic weapons before the end of this decade.
“Creating weapons with a speed exceeding Mach 4 is a major task. This implies a huge scope of scientific problems. The corporation is working on these weapons for Russia to be on par with many developed countries. Weapons which will reach a speed of Mach 6-8 should be produced before the end of this decade,” Mr. Obnosov concluded.
