Russia to Commission Advanced Antiballistic Missile System by 2020

The space echelon of the improved early warning system designed for detecting ballistic missile launches will be commissioned by 2020. This statement was made by Chief Engineer of the Almaz-Antey Corporation Pavel Sozinov on Monday.

“As for the development of the space echelon, everything necessary has been accepted and technical solutions have been tested, and we expect that the low-Earth orbit space echelon of the early warning ballistic missile system in its improved form will provide the necessary characteristics for constant warning of ballistic missile launches by 2020 or even earlier,” Mr. Sozinov commented.

Speaking of the creation of a radar field over the territory of Russia at medium and high altitudes, Mr. Sozinov stated that the possibilities to detect moving targets had considerably improved in recent years.
