Russian and Japanese Air Forces to Hold Consultations on Bilateral Cooperation
The delegation of Japan’s Air Self-Defence Force plans to visit Russia next week to discuss with officials of the Russian Air Force the ways to prevent incidents in airspace and boost cooperation of the two air forces. The negotiations will be held in the city of Khabarovsk. According to media reports, the sides are also likely to discuss visits to air bases of the two countries.
Japan expects that the air forces of the two countries will establish ties that have been practically “zero” over the recent years in contrast to the ties between Japan’s Maritime Self-Defence Force and the Russian Naval Forces that hold joint military exercises on a regular basis.
It should be noted that these will be the first such consultations since the beginning of the crisis in eastern Ukraine. Japan’s Defence Ministry reports that the Russian Air Force has considerably increased its activity since then.
