Russia’s GLONASS Receives Own Domain Extension
The IANA organization has approved the creation of the new top-level domain network .gdn. Russia’s JSC Navigation and Information Systems (NIS GLONASS) has become the administrator of the new zone. This information was presented by the press service of Russia’s GLONASS.
As stated by Coordination Center Director Andrey Kolesnikov, NIS GLONASS is entitled to delegate the first technical domains after receiving approval from the IANA. According to the information available, NIS GLONASS plans to sell domains in the .gdn zone. In its application, the company reported that the market of global navigation satellite systems will increase by 100% in 2012-2016 and the Russian company wants to provide its participants with an opportunity to register domains in the .gdn zone. The application also stated that the cost of the .gdn domain registration for one year will amount to $15. The maximum registration period will be 10 years, with an option to extend the term.
