Russian Military Shipbuilding Program Includes Creation of Own Helicopter Carriers
Design and construction of Russian multipurpose assault helicopter is entered in the long-term program of military shipbuilding up to 2050, a high-ranking source in the Defense Ministry said to TASS.
“Building of own landing ships is included by the Navy in the long-term program of military shipbuilding up to 2050 and approved by the Ministry of Defence. There are such ships, and a lot,” the official said.
According to him, the Russian Navy needs multipurpose assault ships like helicopter carrier of Mistral type or “a little smaller in terms of tonnage and dimensions”. This ship, the source said, solves more problems than large multipurpose ships under construction project 11711 (type “Ivan Gren”).
