Russia Designing Unique Space Rocket with Reusable Stage

The Makeev State Rocket Center (Miass, Chelyabinsk Region) is implementing a project to build a space rocket with a reusable stage. This was stated by Director and Chief Designer of the State Rocket Center Vladimir Degtyar.

“In 2014, we have been considering different options for the space rockets of light and ultra-light classes, including the ultra-light version of the rocket with a reusable first stage to demonstrate performance of the key technologies for further development of the heavy and super-heavy space rockets with a reusable first stage,” Mr. Degtyar said.

In 2007, the State Rocket Center elaborated special materials for the Rossiyanka space rocket with a reusable first stage. In 2013, the company continued working in this direction and proposed modernization of the first stage of the heavy space rocket to the reusable one by fitting the stage with additional components and assemblies to ensure its reusable application.
