Russia to Equip New Submarine with Underwater Drones
The Russian multipurpose nuclear submarine of the new generation will be armed with missiles, torpedoes, underwater robots, and drones. This was announced by Deputy Director of the Malakhit Design Bureau Nikolay Novoselov.
Russia is now using the fourth-generation Yasen-class nuclear multipurpose attack submarines.
“The Russian next-generation nuclear-powered attack submarines will also be armed with torpedoes, missiles and underwater drones. The underwater drones will be able to detach from the submarine. The submarine will be able to leave the area covertly, while the drone will simulate the submarine’s presence,” Mr. Novoselov explained.
Russia is also using nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines known as the Borey class. Two modern submarines, the Yury Dolgoruky and the Alexander Nevsky, are in active service, the Vladimir Monomakh is to be delivered this month, while three other submarines are currently under construction.
