Russia to Overcome Dependence on Foreign Technologies
The Russian companies should overcome their dependence on foreign technologies in the defence industry. This statement was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday.
“The Russian industry should produce different types of weapons. It is necessary to overcome our dependence on imports of technologies, units and assemblies. It is important not only to place orders at our enterprises and design bureaus, but also to organize production, which will outperform foreign analogues,” Mr. Putin said during a meeting at the Russian Defence Ministry.
According to the President, the total amount of the state defence order increased by 1.5 times in 2014 as compared to 2013. Over 4,500 types of weaponry and hardware have been provided to the troops, including 142 aircraft, 135 helicopters, four submarines, 15 ships and boats, 19 anti-aircraft missile systems, 590 tanks and infantry combat vehicles. Three Yars strategic missile systems were put on combat duty. Seven strategic bombers were upgraded.
