Russia to Actively Commercialize Space Industry
Russia’s GLONASS system will have a resolution of 60 centimeters by 2020. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.
“The new generation of satellites that we are ready to place into orbit will ensure a resolution of 60 cm by 2020. There is serious competition around the world. The new partners will use our navigation signal. This will also make it possible to create special programs for further implementation and modernization of the system,’ Mr. Rogozin stated, adding that Russia should place a sufficient number of satellites into orbit to promptly respond to any threat.
The Deputy Prime Minister also stressed the need to commercialize space industry. According to Mr. Rogozin, Russia is the leader in the segment of launch services. However, this area is not as profitable as earth remote sensing, oil and gas exploration from space, detection and prevention of natural disasters, development of communications and television.
