Second Diesel-Electric Submarine of Project 636.3 to Be Passed to Russian Navy


The ceremony of hoist the Navy flag at the second diesel-electric submarine of Project 636.3 “Varshavyanka” called “Rostov-on-Don” will take place on Tuesday.

The submarine “Rostov-on-Don” was founded in November 2011.

In August 2014 the Navy received a head submarine of this series – “Novorossiysk”, the third ship of the series – “Stary Oskol” has already launched. In total up to 2016 it must be built six submarines of Project 636.3. All of them will be part of the submarine forces of the Black Sea Fleet.

The submarines of project 636.3 “Varshavyanka” refer to the third generation, have a displacement of 3.95 million tons, speed of 20 knots, dive depth of 300 meters and a crew of 52 people. They are armed with torpedoes of caliber 533 millimeters (six units), mines and percussion missile system “Kalibr”.
