Russia to Test New AWACS Plane in 2015
The specialists of the Russian Defence Ministry’s State Flight Test Center in Akhtubinsk (Astrakhan Region) will test the new A-100 airborne warning and control system aircraft in 2015. This was announced by Colonel Igor Klimov, a spokesman for the Russian Air Force.
“In 2015, the Russian Defence Ministry plans to test various prototypes, including the PAK FA, MiG-29 K/KUB for the Russian Navy, MiG-35, IL-112, Tu-142MRM, IL-22M, IL-114R, A-100, Tu-214R aircraft, as well as Ka-60 and Mi-28NM helicopters and different weapons,” Mr. Klimov stated.
It’s worth noting that the A-100 is an airborne warning and control system aircraft based on the IL-76MD-90A and fitted with PS-90A-76 engine. The new plane will have an advanced active phase array capable of detecting and tracking airborne and land-based targets. The first deliveries to the Russian Air Force are scheduled for 2016.
