Promising Carrier Rocket “Angara” to Be Completely “Clean” by 2018

The use of oxygen-hydrogen booster as the upper stage of the launch vehicle “Angara” makes this carrier completely environmentally “clean”, missile general designer Vladimir Nesterov said on Wednesday to “Interfax-AVN”.

“According to the plans of the Federal Space Agency, the oxygen-hydrogen upper stage should be launched in 2017. But I think it will really be ready to 2018,” he said.

The family of launch vehicles “Angara” is considered as environmentally friendly thanks to using as the components of fuel kerosene and liquid oxygen. However, as the upper stage of a heavy rocket “Angara-A5” we are using the booster “Briz-M”, the engine which uses highly toxic propellants.
