First Flight Model of Russian MS-21 Aircraft to Be Ready in December


The first flying prototype of the new Russian medium-range civil aircraft MS-21 will appear in the end of this year, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Yuri Slusar reported.

“The first flight model aircraft will be ready at the end of 2015. The first flight is scheduled for 2016. Certificate of the Interstate Aviation Committee, summarizing the tests must be received at the end of 2017 – beginning of 2018. Next step – deliveries to customers,” Yu .Slyusar said in an interview published by “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” on Thursday.

He added that regular passenger services on the MS-21 will begin in 2018.

“MS21 is the priority project in the civil aviation, we see it as an engine of advanced technological innovations in aerodynamics, engine, onboard systems,” the deputy head of the Ministry of Transport said.

According to him, at the beginning of mass production the share of domestic components in the MS-21 will be more than 50%, and over time it will grow.
