20 Missile Launches Detected by Don-2N Radar in 2014
Russia’s Don-2N radar providing missile defence of the Central Industrial District and Moscow detected more than 20 launches of ballistic missiles and space rockets in the territory of the Russian Federation and tracked a number of space objects in 2014. This was reported by Col. Alexey Zolotukhin, a spokesman of the Russian Defence Ministry for the Aerospace Defence Forces.
“In 2014, Russia’s Don-2N radar of the ballistic missile defence system detected more than 20 launches of ballistic missiles and space rockets conducted from the Russian ranges, spaceports, and marine areas. In addition, more than 300 space objects were detected,” Mr. Zolotukhin commented.
The Don-2N monitoring radar is one of the main elements of the Russian missile defence system. This radar provides continuous control of outer space at an altitude of up to 40,000 km and is able to provide detection of ballistic targets, positioning and guidance of interceptors.
