Russia’s Roscosmos will replace the Zenit rocket produced by Yuzhmash (Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine) with the latest Angara carrier rocket. This was announced by Igor Burenkov, a spokesman for the Russian Space Agency, on Monday.

“Our industry has just completed creating the advanced rocket that makes it possible to perform any task, and we believe that there is no point in buying Ukrainian rockets,” Mr. Burenkov said, noting that Roscosmos decided to cease purchasing the Zenit rockets after the leadership of the Russian Space Agency was changed in January 2015.

It’s necessary to mention that the former head of the Russian Space Agency Oleg Ostapenko wanted to continue using the Zenit rockets and planned three launches in 2016-2018. However, the new leadership of the Russian Space Agency decided to stop purchasing the Zenit rockets from Ukraine.
