Rifles for “Ratnik” to Be Made in Russia since February


AK-12 and A-545 will be produced by plants “Kalashnikov” and “Degtyarev plant” since February 2015, and after that the Defense Ministry will choose the weapon for combat equipment “Ratnik”, the newspaper “Izvestia” reports, citing the Ministry of Defense.

According to the publication, the weapon will be selected on the basis of the military operation, which will be completed by the end of 2015.

In late January, Yuri Borisov said that the outfit of “soldier of the future” will include AK-12, which was ahead of his rival A-971. A-545 was designed based on the A-971, and, according to the publication, Degtyarev Plant eliminated the comments received during the state tests. The edition reminds that state testing was completed in January of this year. Military department tested several prototypes of each rifle and concluded that both are broadly consistent with the requirements of the Ministry of Defense.
