Tu-142 of Northern Fleet Mastered Aerial Refueling
The crews of distant antisubmarine aircraft Tu-142 of the Northern Fleet worked aerial refueling at a height of 4-5 thousand meters at a speed of 500-600 kilometers per hour, the head of the press service of the Northern Fleet Vadim Serga told reporters on Thursday.
He noted that such flights are one of the most difficult types of flight training.
“Antisubmarine aircraft Tu-142 having a takeoff weight of 190 tons, should approach to the air tanker Il-78, weighing 170 tons, at a distance of 10-15 meters and contact the probe with tanker cone-sensor, and then withstand a place in the ranks to full refueling,” Sergey said.
Refueling in the air increases the range and the possibilities of Tu-142, allows the use of a fixed place of deployment to perform tasks at a great distance.
