Meteor-M1 and Elektro-L1 to Monitor Space Environment
Russian scientists have discussed results of the first phase of the project titled “The system of radiation monitoring in the surrounding space and intended orbits”. The first phase of the project was used to develop comprehensive scientific and technological solutions in the field of monitoring and forecasting of the radiation state of the circumterrestrial space.
“Space exploration is necessary to prevent negative effects of radiation on the spacecraft equipment and cosmonauts,” Space Monitoring Center Director Vladimir Kalegaev stated.
The new project will be implemented on the basis of the Space Monitoring Center that provides information about the current state of the space environment. This information is automatically transferred from Meteor-M1, Elektro-L1, SDO, ACE and GOES satellites. The information is also obtained by means of the operational models of the space environment developed at the Space Monitoring Center.
