NASA Willing to Buy 6 Additional Places on Soyuz Spacecraft
NASA has said in a statement that it would like to buy another six places on the Russian-made Soyuz spacecraft to take American astronauts to the International Space Station in 2018 and bring them back to Earth in 2019. According to the information available, the US Space Agency plans to enter into a contract with the Russian Space Agency in the short run.
The Russian spacecraft have been traditionally used to take astronauts to the International Space Station, and the running contract between NASA and Roscosmos lasts until the end of 2017. According to media reports, the US Space Agency pays about 76 million for a place on the Russian Soyuz spacecraft.
NASA announced that the new agreement with Russian partners would ensure permanent US presence on the ISS until the United States could produce their own reliable commercial spacecraft that are being developed by Boeing and Space-X at the moment.
