Shvabe Develops Unique Fiber for Gyroscopes
Russia’s Shvabe Holding has developed a high-tech fiber to produce gyroscopes for maritime navigation systems. This information was presented by the press service of the holding company.
“This fiber has unique characteristics to preserve the radiation polarization that determines the accuracy of inertial and satellite navigation systems operating on the basis of fiber-optic gyroscopes,” Shvabe Deputy Director General for Research, Development and Innovation, Nikolay Rakovich commented.
The navigation and orientation systems based on fiber-optic gyroscopes are installed on marine vessels of all types in order to determine a geographical course and measure a number of parameters. They are also used for laying underwater cables and pipelines.
“The production technology is characterized by higher quantitative indicators, and the cost is three times lower than that of the similar foreign products,” Mr. Rakovich concluded.
