Robotic Android to Be Sent to ISS
Russian scientists in the near future plan to send a domestic robot android on the International Space Station (ISS), the chief of the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center Yuri Lonchakov.
“In robotics we have a very large program. This is one of the important directions of research laboratory that we have created together with Computing Centre under the Russian Academy of Sciences. The development involves many astronauts. So the robot will be necessarily registered at the Russian space station,” RIA Novosti quoted Lonchakov. According to Lonchakov, machines can perform in space the most complex and dangerous operations.
“The Canadian robotic arm perfectly proved himself at ISS. But the machine will never completely replace the human being. It has a property – the break. A person can even beyond its capacity implement the operation. But the union of capabilities of the robot and the human being could give fantastic results,” the head of the Cosmonaut Training Center concluded.
