Russia May Develop New Drone Weighing 2 Tons

Russian specialists will create a new air-cushion vehicle. The Chirok drone designed by the United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation will be used as a prototype for the new machine.

Theoretical study of elements and nodes of the machine weighing more than two tons, which was designed on the basis of the existing Chirok drone, has already been performed. It uses the same technology, but the large apparatus must surpass its counterpart with regard to a number of characteristics. The development initiative project is ready to be implemented, and it is quite possible that the prototype will be manufactured.

The new machine will be able to operate in both unmanned and manned modes. In particular, it will be capable of transporting people to hard-to-reach areas. The prototype is designed using foreign engines that can be replaced by domestic counterparts in the future. The prototype will be designed following flight tests of the Chirok, if the project receives the necessary financial support.
