Russia to Create Center for Monitoring Biological Threats
The monitoring center, which will collect information on biological threats in Russia and abroad, will start in the summer of 2018 and is expected to cost 2.2 billion rubles for the budget.
As the newspaper “Izvestia” reports on Friday, it will be the first Russian National Integration Monitoring Centre for biological threats, which will collect and analyze information on dangerous viruses, bacteria and emerging epidemic in the country and in neighboring areas. As a source from the Ministry of Health told the newspaper, the project documentation will be ready later this year, and the center is scheduled to start in summer 2018.
The source said that the need for a unified monitoring service is due to the emergence of new risk factors, such as the recent epidemic of Ebola, high levels of migration and the availability of components for the production of biological weapons.
