Russia and Abkhazia to Sign New Treaty of Friendship & Mutual Assistance

The leaders of Russia and Abkhazia discussed the need to conclude a new treaty of friendship and mutual assistance which will provide for the establishment of a common defence and security space. This information was presented by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov after a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with his Abkhazian counterpart Raul Khajimba.

“During this conversation, the sides discussed the possibility and necessity of signing a new treaty of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance aimed at boosting integration between the two sovereign states. This document will envisage the establishment of a common defence and security space,” Mr. Peskov pointed out.

“The creation of a common defence space will ensure the opening of the Russian-Abkhazian border and will contribute to the further growth of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation,” the press secretary of the Russian President concluded.
