Robot Helped to Demine Chechnya 1.5 Months Ahead of Schedule

Sappers of the Southern Military District carried out in Chechnya the continuous cleaning up of farmland from explosive ordnances in 2014 1.5 months before the planned date, the press service of the Southern Military District said on Friday.

In total, this year it was cleared more than 2.6 thousand hectares, and it was found and destroyed about 3 thousand explosive ordnances.

“Sappers of the Southern Military District managed to finish the planned clearance of the Chechen Republic farmland through the use of modern engineering equipment, including the demining complex “Uran-6” and the latest protective sapper suit OVR-1 “Sokol” – was said in a statement.

In July-August 2014 the robot-sapper “Uran-6” cleared 60 acres of land, destroying about 35 explosive ordnances with a total mass of more than 40 kilograms.
