Russia’s 5G Fighter Receives New Electronic Warfare System

The Radio Electronic Technologies (KRET) provided the T-50 aircraft (PAK FA) with the first batch of the Himalayas electronic warfare systems. This came in a statement by KRET Director General Nikolay Kolesov.

“T-50 prototypes have already been equipped with the Himalayas onboard system. The system is being used in plane tests,” Mr. Kolesov commented, noting that the unique air system increases fighter jet’s jamming resistance and damage tolerance, as well as neutralizes enemy’s signature control systems. It also helps to decrease an aggregate weight of the PAK FA.

“The Himalayas are integrated into the fighter jet system to the extent it functions as a smart cover. In other words, we are not producing separate blocks, but parts of a plane with add-in electronic devices,” Mr. Kolesov said while talking about the electronic warfare characteristics of the fifth-generation fighter jets.

The Himalayas system was developed by the Kaluga Scientific Research and Radio Technology Institute and is manufactured at the Signal in Stavropol.
