Two Gepard 3.9 frigates being built by Russia for Vietnam will be delivered to the customer in late 2016 as planned. This was announced by Chief Engineer of the Zelenodolsk Design Bureau Yevgeny Matveev at the INDO DEFENCE international exhibition.

“We have already constructed two frigates of this class for Vietnam, and now the second pair is being built that differs in the weapons and military equipment. The delivery is scheduled for late 2016,” Mr. Matveev stated, adding that the new frigates for the foreign customer will be fitted with antisubmarine warfare equipment in addition to surface countermeasure systems.

“We see no factors for non-fulfillment of the obligations, the work is being performed according to schedule,” Mr. Matveev said.

It should be noted that the construction of the second pair of the Gepard 3.9 frigates with antisubmarine weapons for the Vietnamese Navy continues the work of the Zelenodolsk Plant within the framework of international military-technical cooperation.
